The Los Angeles Learning Disabilities Association is an affiliate of the Learning Disabilities Association of America. LALDA supports the mission statement of LDA of America as follows…LDA is a non-profit organization of volunteers, including individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and professionals who serve them. LDA is dedicated to identifying causes and promoting prevention of learning disabilities and enhancing the quality of life for all individuals with learning disabilities and their families by encouraging effective identification and intervention, fostering research, and protecting their rights under the law. LDA seeks to accomplish this through awareness, advocacy, empowerment, education, service, and collaborative efforts.

LALDA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. LALDA does not endorse any product, system or service.

HISTORY

The Los Angeles Learning Disabilities Association was founded in 1960 as the California Association for Neurologically Handicapped Children by a group of concerned parents and professionals. In 1974, CANHC affiliated with the national organization, Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities (ACLD), and eventually became CANHC-ACLD, then ACLD of California. In 1989 the names of the national and state organizations were changed to the Learning Disabilities Association (LDA) to be more easily found by parents, adults with learning disabilities, and professionals in need of their services.
